Gold Mines vs Bucket Crab Land Mines

This evening I was “venting” to my friend Tina about something that has taken me 36 hours to let sink in and really get infuriated about.  Maaaaaaaaan, I was so mad I stopped at the store and purchased a Coke soda!  I have practically given up soda for the past few years – with an occasional set back….and I know the ill effects of Coke soda….but tonight I had made up my mind to re-live the tingle to my tastebuds of the fizz going down! But I digress. Tina said something to me about gold mines and the talent that surrounds us. And as soon as she mentioned “gold mines” I had a thought for tonight’s writing.  Thus, my title.

You see, some of us – (myself included) – are extraordinarily talented in a large variety of ways.  But the more our talent shines, the sharper the axes get for those who just refuse to encourage and empower – even if we are using our talents to encourage and empower others.  These people are bitter, hateful, dangerous and ever so debilitating to one’s overall sense of self-worth and motivation.  They are the huge, overweight crabs in buckets – ever so heavy that even THEY can’t lift a crab leg to even attempt to crawl up a side.  I see these people as land mines: explosive devices concealed under or on the ground and designed to destroy or disable…. (Thanks, Wikipedia!) Some of us have just about had enough of these bucket crab land mines and it’s really challenging not to wish the worst upon them.

I have no message tonight for those people because they WILL remain who they are.  But tonight I want to encourage every one who has goals and dreams  and who are going through the slash down, the tongue lashing, and the character assassination to hold on tight to the rope of hope. It’s only a matter of time until you will swing into your destiny.  In the meantime, take a little time to do something for you that makes YOU feel good.  I just did. I wrote about it – while sipping my Coke!

  1. Oh boy…i have had quite a few of theae experiences Shawny! It can be quite discouraging but i know that as i continue to press and focus on reaching these dreams i shall be successful! Thanks for the share!!

  2. Excellent! A very realistic and true depiction of Bermuda today, a nanny state, where everyone else is responsible for MY actions, but if I complain and deflect, and destroy someone else, I need not accept what is mine. That my friend speaks more to the character of the people who choose to whine and complain. You keep doing you and all the beautiful things that you do in our community, the crabs..they will always exist, however, they are nameless and faceless, you my dear are priceless!

  3. I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across a
blog that’s both equally educative and entertaining, and without a doubt,
you’ve hit the nail on the head. The issue is something
which too few folks are speaking intelligently about.
I am very happy I found this in my hunt for something relating to
    this.
